Why Speaking in Tongues doesn’t make you a True Christian. (1Cor 14: 1 – 31)


In our recent, 9 Powerful gift of the Holy Spirit you may not know you possess, we stated that one of the gifts is Speaking in Tongues. Speaking in Tongues is spiritual affair where by you communicate to God alone and only he understands. It is speaking in truth by the Holy Spirit.

Nowadays, most people speak in tongues without connecting to the Holy Spirit; they just come along start speaking in Strange Tongues to the congregation in church, without interpretation of what was spoken.
In the book of 1Corintians 14:5 it quote “it is better you have the gift of proclaiming God’s message. For the person who proclaims God’s message is of greater value than the one who speak in strange tongues. Unless there is someone present who can explain what is said, so that the whole church may be helped”.

From the statement above you will understand that it does not matter how much you speak in tongue, what matters is how much you preach God’s word. Some servants of god force speaking in tongues to prove they are strong or connected. Speaking in tongues is a proof for unbelievers, not for believers, while the gift of proclaiming God’s message is proof for believers nor unbelievers. That is why most people want to go to churches where the head pray in tongues more, perform miracles while speaking in tongues more, than preaching God’s word.

Facts about speaking in Tongues and Proclaiming God’s message.

  1. Those who speak in strange tongues do not speak to others but to God, because no one understands them.
  2. But those who proclaim God’s message speak to people and give them help, encouragement and comfort.
  3. Those who speak in strange tongues help only themselves, but those who proclaim God’s message help the whole church.
  4. The person who proclaims God’s message is of greater value than the one who speak in strange tongues unless there is someone present who can explain what is said.
  5. The person, who speaks in strange tongues, then must pray for the gift to explain what is said.
  6. The gift of Speaking in tongues is proof for unbelievers, not for believers, while the gift of proclaiming God’s message is proof for believers not believers.

So in conclusion, my Brothers and Sisters, set your hearts on proclaiming God’s message, but do not forbid the speaking in strange tongues everything must be in a proper and orderly way.

Symptoms of depression
It is becoming more common in our days, whereby we find more people suffering from depression. Do you know that sometimes its people that are ignorant that even make other people depressed. Every time you gossip about someone, you are harming that person, every time you speak evil about someone even every time you break someone’s heart, so even if you are not the one depressed, you can be the cause of someone dealing with depression.

Here in this article we are looking at how we can use our relationship with God and deal with it. Though there are probably some medical ways to deal with it but that is not the case now.

WHAT IS DEPRESSION?

DEPRESSION is a feeling of severe despondency and dejection. Usually which last for a long period of time.

DEPRESSION is a serious medical illness that negatively affect how you feel, the way you think and how you act.

DEPRESSION is a state of feeling unhappy and without for the future.
So as human being we all have sessions when we are sad, that necessarily don’t mean that anytime we are sad, we are depressed.

WHO CAN BE DEPRESSED?
Most of us in our mind, when we talk about depression, we are thinking of people that are really going through a tough time, and to be frank with you, that is the major cause of it, a lot of people depressed are going through a tough time. But depression is not centered to those category of people only, any kind of person can be depressed. 


There are people that are well to do and rich but are very depressed. Statistically, countries that are well to do also have a very high suicidal rate, so don’t fall to the idea that somebody going through a difficult time is the only one depressed no! Anybody can be depressed, plagued, attacked by depression.
We will look at three examples of famous and wealthy people who were attacked by depression.
Like Anthony Bourdain, he is a very popular man, he used to run a CNN show, he is an international chef, he travels on air with premium class all around the world just to taste the food of other chefs. His net worth was about $16 million dollars (57 billion Naira). But about June 8th 2018, Bourdain was found dead by an apparent suicide by hanging.

 Do you know the kind of depression you would have gone through to the extent of committing suicide?

It is said that out of 10 people that commit suicide in USA, 7 of them are Americans, black people don’t like to kill themselves. Statistics reveal that in every 40 seconds, someone in the world commits suicide. 

In America for instance suicide have grown to about 25%. In America 44,965 people die by suicide yearly, 123 die per day and the common age range that people die is from 45 and 54, because they hit what they call midlife crisis, they enter a stage where they begin to think about their life, asking some pessimistic question such as, what am I doing with my life?, have I achieved anything?, this series of questions begin to lay some heaviness in them thereby causing depression.

There is a spirit of heaviness that come on people around that middle age, because its prolyl done to you, that you are in the second half of your life.


It has been found also that men are three times more likely to commit suicide more than women, this is very understandable because men bottle up emotions more, women are expressive, they cry a lot, talk a lot and they do a lot of things that ease tension a lot. Men don’t talk, men can be going through stuffs, bound in sin, bound in negative habit, bound in depression and never tell anybody. Men loose hope faster than women, women are naturally are fantasized. 

SOME CAUSES OF DEPRESSION

Disappointment – Disappointment in self (caused by self-pride because you think you are above mistake), disappointment in people, disappointment in God.

Temperament - In some cases this has been one of the causes of Depression. It is most common to the Melancholies.

Loss of loved one - This is another high causes of depression, especially losing a spouse, many people have prey of this cause for depression.

Financial issues – caused by economic crisis, maybe you use to have money then got bankrupt or have a business, which got burnt down by a fire outbreak, also some people can’t withstand debt, they can be so disturbed when they owe you and don’t have the money to pay back.

Over dependent on statement – that is taking alcohol, drugs etc., that is why I have never seen a Christian drunk making impact, winning soul for God, you can’t maintain those two lives. 
You can’t see a professional footballer who still is a professional table tennis player that is he want to partake in the both in the world cup. Literally what this means is that you can’t be a Christian and still be a partaker in the things of the world. You won’t be anything in the both of them and those are the most useless people.

Pressure to live up to people’s expectation – This can cause depression. Do you know a lot of things that make you angry is because of what society is saying and doing? For instance marriage, nobody gave the appropriate age for marriage, its society, so when you live a certain age and you are not married, you begin to get pressure. When you have the intention to be perfect for everybody you begin to get depressed.

Comparison – The reason some people can be depressed is because they are comparing themselves to other people’s life. In this life there people that will always be better than you in somethings, don’t say this person is finer, can sing or has more assets and accessories, this is more common to women.

SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION

TIREDNESS – If you are always tired, you are likely to be depressed, whether you did some major or minor work or not yet you are tired, infect when you get up from sleep in the morning you tired, because the anxiety didn’t let you rest even while you were asleep. If you check more of the things you say mostly comprises of the sentence “I’m tired”.

EXCESSIVE ANGER: That means small things provoke you more than they should. Moses had this issue in the Bible.

HATRED – When you are dealing with depression you hate people, because you don’t like the fact they are happy with their life, so you hate them.  Most times you see them on social media. They are the ones that come to troll people, even when you say the right thing.

SUICIDAL THOUGHT AND SUICIDAL BEHAVIOUR – These is another major symptoms of depression. You get depressed that death seem more attractive to you more than anything. Or even if you are not directly committing suicide but you are living a reckless way that will destroy your life.

LACK OF INTEREST IN THINGS YOU ARE NORMALLY INTERESTED IN – You lose interest in your family, kids, spouse, country, job, church.

TURNING TO STIMULANTS – When you drink, smoke drug too much, even if it is a cause, it can also be symptom.

Depression is not just a physical thing, it can start with a physical thing but it leads to what the bible calls the spirit of heaviness (Isaiah 61:3). In my next article I will be talking about the cure for depression.

Women covering head in worship places.

Is it a sin to leave leave my head open in church?

Recently I posted an article talking about Old Testament commandments that won’t make you go to heaven or hell if you obey or disobey them. Though this topic about a woman covering her head in place of worship got recognition in the New testament; where Paul made it clear to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 11:1-16).

In this twenty first century controversies have abound in in religious places about this dialogue, whether it is right for a woman to cover her head in public worship. 

From my end I will be speaking based on the scripture above. Paul quoted “so a man who prays or proclaims God’s message in public worship with his head covered disgraces Christ. And any woman who prays or proclaims God’s message in public worship with nothing on her head disgraces her husband; there is no difference between her and a woman whose head has been Shaved…..”

The point here means a woman who did not cover her head haven’t sinned against God, instead she is a disgrace to her husband, also Paul went ahead to give a scenario “there is no difference between her and a woman whose head has been shaved” that means it is only when a woman shaves the hair on her head, then she is obligated to cover her head in the place of worship. 

In other to buttress on this; let’s see the verse 14 of this same (1Corinthians 11:14-16). It says “why, nature itself teaches you that long hair on a man is a disgrace (15) but on a woman it is a thing of beauty. Her long hair has been given to her to serve as a 
covering”.

I guess Paul actually gave a final judgement on this, there is no bad whether you have your hair covered or not as a woman, unless you shaved your hair.

How to be rich in one month

Can I suggest to you that you were created to solve a Problem?
Firstly let’s define a problem. “Problem is a difficulty that has to be resolved or dealt with”. It could be Economical, Technological, Biological, Geographical, Evangelical, Ministerial problem etc.
You were born to solve a problem and you are God’s response to a need that he created. In other words you are the answer to a question God knew they would ask in your generation. Everyone came to earth to manage a problem, to solve a problem for humanity. You exist because you are the fulfillment of one of God’s desires, you are the assignment on your generation. Your teacher, Lecturer, pastor, ministers, were born to solve a problem in the world so were you. They are not better than you, they’re not superior, they just found their problem and their job is to help you find your problem.

You were not born to pay a living pay bills and die, you were born to actually solve a problem on earth. You get paid by the problem you solve. In life you don’t work only for money, you work for solutions and then people pay you for solutions you provide. Once you find a problem, you’ve found wealth.

The truth is that if you don’t solve that problem, the problem still exist, the grave yard is filled with people who never solved the problem they were brought to this earth to solve. You become valuable based on the problems you solve, Moses is a perfect example of a problem solver, same with other great people in the bible. For example Moses solved the problem of slavery, David solved the problem of Goliath. It is sometimes it is not necessary to ask God to every Goliath you meet, don’t ask God for deliverance from your success. When the problem shows up don’t ask God to move it. The problem shows up to introduce you to yourself. If there was no Goliath there will be no King David, that giant was a ticket to his greatness. Dr. Myles Munroe of blessed memory quoted “Don’t fight it, Kill it”, stop trying to run away from the key to your greatness.

The problems you are going to find this week has been sent to give you value. David was not important until he killed Goliath. Your values (Money or Pay) goes up when the problems are solved.  So when you go back to your Job and you meet difficulties don’t run away from them embrace them.

By the way you are never remembered for the things you avoided, you are remembered for the things you survived.
Joseph solved the problem of dream; pharaoh had an economy crisis, who solved it? Joseph. He was a prisoner, sometimes, the problems are in in prisons (Hard times) and when you solve it, you grow from a prisoner to a prince. It is the solution that makes you valuable not the location.
I so much recount on this statement, “Don’t look for money, money follows solutions”.

Why do you think Bill Gates is so rich? Let me digress a little on how Bill Gates solved a problem that made him wealthy.
Bill Gates worked for IBM (International Business Machine) when they used to do DOS (Disk Operating System) then Bill Gates developed Microsoft in IBM, took it to the board but the board rejected it. Bill Gates never got discouraged, he resigned from IBM, went to his garage and built a computer with the software. Now every IBM computers now has his software installed in it. What did he do? He solved a problem.

Daniel in the Bible solved a problem of Administration in Babylon, Esther solved the problem of genocide. I wonder if there is a young person now who is being destroyed by sex, prostitution, drugs, and cybercrime and there is a young woman who is supposed to save them. Maybe your greatness is in the problem in your neighborhood, but we are so busy trying to pay light bills, water bills, we walk pass the problems every day that is supposed to Make us great. If you want to be great, look for problems.

Jesus solved the problem of sin. He solved the most important problem on earth, sin and death that is why he is so famous. You follow him because you are scared of death.

I have been so scared of what’s happening in our society, where we are so dependent on Government to meet our needs, that we become helpless when the Government cannot. What we have actually created is that the Government is now the economy parent of the citizen, to the point that we don’t think anymore, we just want to be slave to a Government machinery called “Employment”. And so most of the government politicians run their political programs promising you employment.
God never gave Adam a job, secondly he never gave Adam anything, he put everything in the things around him. God never gave Adam chair, and I’m sure he was bothered to sit down sometime. God never gave him a bed, a table because he hid them in the trees.

You see “Employment” prevents you from seeing the table in the tree, that is why most of us in our post-colonial countries, we always struggle with poverty and Employment. And depending on external investors we have been conditioned not to see the table in the tree we rather buy the table from Miami rather than making it from the tree. You were born with a gift to solve a problem, when the problem meets the gift wealth is the result. Spend the next three weeks sit down and think about what I am talking about here, you can’t spend the remaining of the year staggering, wandering through life, trying to figure out where you should retire, because you have one year about to leave you again.

Let me tell you something, you have to stop thinking beyond getting a Job, start thinking of what is your gift, strength, uniqueness, what do you have that you can give the world?

Be a business, because business is born when a solution to a problem is discovered.
